What is Your Favorite Thing to Do Outside? (I asked my daughter)

What My Daughter Really Loves About Playing Outside: Her Friends
Pin It

It was raining the other day when I walked the kids into school.  It ended up thundering throughout the day and when I picked Munchkin Girl up from school she said, "Mommy...why are there boomers?  I was scared of the boomers today...they were so loud!"

I replied, "God makes boomers because the trees and grass get thirsty and need water."

She thought for a minute and said, "Mommy, where does God live?  Will he come visit us someday?"

Well of course I'm biased but I thought this was about the sweetest thing I ever heard.  Her response inspired me to begin a little experiment...we love playing outside...okay the truth is that I love being outside and I drag them along but I do try to change up the routine a bit...some days we go to the park, some days we go to my parents house so they can visit the horses, some days we walk to the pond and throw in rocks and visit the ducks.  Other days we just play in the front of our house (we live on a cul-de-sac).  So, I really wanted to start understanding my daughter and understanding her personality and preferences.  For about a week, I asked my daughter the same question every day:

What is your favorite thing to do outside?

Here are here answers:

"Play with my friends"

"Ride my bike with my friends"

"Bring my dolls outside so I can play camp out with my friends"

"Eat snacks with my friends"

Now that I'm finished with my experiment, I noticed something.  See how there is a common word in every response?  FRIENDS. I guess I don't have to stress too much about what we do outside.  I'm sure we will still go to the pond and definitely to my parents house often, but I guess I don't need to do anything too elaborate...As long as her friends are there, she'll be a happy camper.

  4. Taking a stroll outside is like a breath of fresh air for the soul. The gentle rustle of leaves, the warmth of sunlight kissing my skin, and the rhythmic melody of birdsong create a symphony of joy. Each step feels like a dance with nature, grounding me in the present moment. The vibrant colors of flowers and the soothing breeze remind me of life's simple wonders. Grateful for this outdoor escape, where every path unveils a new adventure and every breath brings tranquility. Embracing the beauty around us is a priceless gift for a brighter day!
